Hail to the Rainbow

Post by Thing on a Spring »

You should play this.

It's a single player, narrative driven, first person adventure game with a lot of old school hallmarks like having to pay attention to what you're being told, not being spoon fed the location of your next objective, exploration being rewarded and some puzzles that you'll have to figure out.

You're a 14 year old boy named Ignat in post-apocalyptic Russia. You're going about your post-apocalyptic business, sans parents, and all of a sudden you hear a communication from your (thought to be) dead father over the radio you built. You decide to set out and find out where it came from and if your father is still somehow alive out there in the frozen wasteland.

The near-future retro futurist sci-fi atmosphere is incredible, the world, the story, the music, the voice acting is all fantastic and save for those last two, it was all made by a single Russian guy. It'll run you about 13 dollas and to be quite honest, it's much more deserving of your time and hard earned money than most AAA releases these days. It takes clear inspiration from Half Life 2 and NieR Automata among others.

I took my time with it and went in without any prior knowledge other than having randomly clicked on the below video, and spent about 17 hours on my first playthrough.

I'm Thing on a Spring and I endorse this message.

That is NOT what I expected after reading the title.

Trailer was awesome. I'm putting this on my list. Thanks!

Sounds like a game developed by ResetEra, but actually looks sick. Will definitely keep an eye on it.

On more than one occasion, I had to stop and take in my surroundings and remind myself that the whole thing is the product of one man's vision and ability. I generally don't bother with photo mode in games but I made an exception for this game.
