HighGuard releases on January 26th, 2026 but the development team has been radio silent since its announcement.
Forbes has recently found out that HighGuard didn't even pay for their premium last announcement spot at the Game Awards. In Geoff's infinite wisdom, he gave the spot away for free.
‘Highguard’ Did Not Pay For Its Infamous Game Awards Finale Slot
...Now, two separate sources have told me that Highguard did not have to pay for that hugely coveted spot at all. Reportedly, showrunner Geoff Keighley just really liked the game and offered it to them.
...Highguard announced a January 26, 2026 release date, now just over a week away, and it has not done any additional marketing whatsoever, not even a tweet. I’ve recently been made aware of a recent major preview event for the game, and coverage of it will no doubt begin next week. But starting your actual marketing campaign a week before release is…a choice, particularly when you would think you’d want to preview characters and modes and such to try and turn that initial sentiment around, and better explain what the game actually is.
Be ready to see a ton of YouTube videos about this.
As someone who has nigh-on 3000 hours in Apex Legends, I had high hopes for this but I'm afraid it's not it for me. At all. I went through the tutorial, played two full games and uninstalled. I agree with the sentiment that there's a good game in here somewhere but right now it doesn't know what it is or what it wants to be. And it's blandness personified in almost every field, art design, music, world, characters..
Mighty disappointed but I think Geoff Keighly has a lot to answer for, putting this as the final game awards announcement. The tit.
